Is Looksmith legit? What it is, who builds it, what it costs
Last updated:
Mirable Labs, Inc. builds Looksmith, an unreleased iOS app that renders a makeup look onto a photograph of your face. No App Store listing, and six free looks.
Looksmith is a real product from a real company, Mirable Labs, Inc., and it has not launched. It is an iOS app that renders a complete makeup look onto a photograph of your own face. Mirable Labs has published no App Store listing and no public build, and the site does nothing but take waitlist emails. Looksmith grants the first six looks free at onboarding.
That is the whole answer. The detail below includes the parts that are less flattering.
Who builds Looksmith
Mirable Labs, Inc. builds Looksmith. The legal name appears on the terms and the privacy policy, and the about page is the same company saying the same thing in longer form.
Is Looksmith a scam?
No, and the useful checks are the ones you can run without trusting this page. If you found Looksmith through an ad or a screenshot and you are working out whether anything sits behind it, start with the company name above, then read the privacy policy and the terms and see whether the three of them agree.
What Looksmith does
Looksmith asks you to save a Likeness once, which is a set of selfies that becomes your reusable face. You pick a look. Looksmith renders that look onto your own face and lists the products it used beside it.
Looksmith has three ways in. Style Me puts you in several looks at once. Create Look takes a description in words. Mirror a Look works from an inspiration photograph, and transfers the makeup in it onto you.
Looksmith sends back a 9:16 poster, which is your own photograph with makeup painted into it, and optionally a silent four-second looping clip, about a minute after you ask for it. It is not live, and it is not a filter.
Where Looksmith is today
Pre-launch. Not soft-launched, and not in open beta. The app is not out, and there is nothing on the site to use.

Is Looksmith on the App Store?
No. Mirable Labs, Inc. has not published a Looksmith app, so nothing you find on the App Store today is this Looksmith. The same holds for any site offering an APK, an early build or an invite code. There is nothing to install, so no source offering an install is legitimate.
Looksmith has not announced a launch date, and "coming soon to iOS" here means the app is not finished rather than a date nobody is saying out loud.
What happens when you join the Looksmith waitlist?
Looksmith collects an email address and uses it to tell you when the app is available, which is what the privacy policy says in those words. Nothing else happens. If a waitlist is not worth an email address to you, skipping it costs you nothing.
What Looksmith costs
Looksmith grants the first six looks free at onboarding. After those, it runs on credits, bought in packs.
There is no dollar figure on this page, and that is on purpose. Mirable Labs sets pricing at launch, and Looksmith has not launched, so a number here would be a claim about the cost of something nobody can buy. When there is a real price, Looksmith will show it in the app before you spend anything.
Does Looksmith have a subscription?
No. Looksmith charges for credits in packs and nothing recurring. You buy a pack when you want one, and nothing bills you in between.
What happens to your photographs
Looksmith needs your photographs, and there is no version of generative try-on where it does not. An AR filter can paint colour onto video on your phone and never send a frame anywhere. Looksmith works the other way: your Likeness selfies go to a server, Looksmith renders the look into the image there, and the finished poster comes back. That is the trade you are making for a look that keeps your real lighting and your real face.
Four questions decide whether any app in this category has earned your face: retention, duration, training, deletion. Looksmith answers them across the privacy policy and a separate biometric data retention and destruction policy, which is where the timings live. Read them rather than this paragraph, and read the second one knowing it is published as a draft that says it is not yet in force.
Who Looksmith is not for
| What you want | Is Looksmith the thing? |
|---|---|
| A live mirror that moves with your face | No. An AR filter does that, and Looksmith is not one |
| A finished look on your own face, saved as a picture | Yes, once it ships |
| To see yourself with a fringe or a shorter cut | No. Haircuts, length, parting and silhouette are out of scope |
| A slimmer nose, a sharper jaw, bigger lips | No, and not later either. Looksmith does not edit face geometry |
| A new hair colour or coloured contacts | Once it ships, yes. Hair colour and dye placement are in scope, and iris colour is rendered as a contact-lens effect in realistic human shades |
| An Android app | No. Looksmith is iOS |
| Something you can use today | No |
How old do you have to be to use Looksmith?
Thirteen to hold an account, eighteen for the part you came for. The terms set the floor at 13, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian who agrees to the terms on their behalf. Looksmith then limits any feature that processes your face, and any paid feature, to users who are at least 18. A fifteen-year-old can hold an account and cannot render a look.
Will Looksmith change the shape of my face?
No, and this is the limit worth understanding before you decide whether the app is honest. Looksmith paints makeup pigment, finish, coverage and placement across twelve face regions. It does not slim a face, lift a cheekbone, reshape a nose, enlarge a lip or change an eyelid. A monolid stays a monolid. Looksmith does not change your age, your pose, your expression or your framing, because the finished look is your own photograph retouched rather than a new portrait of someone who looks a bit like you. It preserves glasses exactly and never adds them, and it adds no piercings, tattoos or jewellery.
The lock is what makes the look useful. A picture that narrowed your face without telling you is not evidence about a lipstick.
How to check any of this yourself
Search the App Store for Looksmith. Nothing comes back. Read the privacy policy and the terms, and check whether they name the same company this page does. Look for a price on this site last, and notice there is not one. Then decide.
Looksmith renders a full makeup look onto your own face and lists the products it used. iOS, coming soon.
You’re on the list.
